One of the projects I’ve worked on that I think best represents student-drive learning is the SPARK! Hackathon. Zach Minster, the 9-12 Computer Science Coordinator at St. Anne's-Belfield School and I started the SPARK! Hackathon as a way to share the enthusiasm we have found in students who discover computer science & coding with the thriving tech community in Charlottesville. What we discovered during the planning and running of the event is that students are eager for opportunities to collaborate with others and work on meaningful projects while the tech community is eager to hear their ideas and help them create.
